The aubergine dial showcases refined watchmaking artistry, highlighted by a prominent Roman numeral VI set with 11 diamonds. This elegant design is enhanced by a signature sunray finish, commonly found across the Oyster Perpetual collection, creating soft and dynamic light reflections.

The sunray effect is achieved through precise brushing techniques that form fine grooves radiating outward from the centre of the dial. These delicate engravings allow light to spread evenly across the surface, producing a subtle glow that shifts beautifully with wrist movement.

Once the sunray texture is completed, the aubergine colour is carefully applied using advanced Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) or electroplating techniques. A final protective layer of varnish is then added, giving the dial its polished depth, brilliance, and lasting finish.

Fluted Bezel

A Timeless Rolex Signature

The fluted bezel is a distinctive Rolex design feature that reflects both heritage and craftsmanship. Originally, its fluting served a practical purpose, allowing the bezel to be securely screwed onto the case and helping maintain the watch’s waterproofness.

This design was mirrored on the case back, which was also tightly secured to the case using specialized Rolex tools to ensure full water resistance. Over time, this functional detail evolved into a refined aesthetic element and became a true Rolex signature.

Today, the fluted bezel stands as a symbol of distinction and elegance. On the Datejust 31, it is crafted in gold, adding a luxurious and iconic finishing touch to the timepiece.
