Chocolate Dial

A refined watchmaking technique

This dial is enhanced with diamonds set in 18 ct gold, adding a rich and elegant touch. The sunray finish creates soft, sophisticated light reflections, a signature feature across many Oyster Perpetual dials.

It is crafted using precise brushing techniques that form fine grooves radiating outward from the centre of the dial. These lines allow light to disperse evenly, producing a subtle glow that shifts beautifully with wrist movement.

Once the sunray texture is complete, the dial colour is applied using advanced methods such as Physical Vapour Deposition or electroplating. A final layer of protective varnish adds depth, richness, and a smooth, polished finish.

Fluted Bezel

A signature of Rolex craftsmanship

The fluted bezel is one of the most recognizable elements of Rolex design, representing precision and timeless elegance. Originally, its fluting served a practical purpose—it allowed the bezel to be securely screwed onto the case, helping maintain the watch’s waterproof construction.

This detail was mirrored on the case back, which was also tightly fastened using specialized Rolex tools to ensure complete sealing and protection.

Over time, this functional feature evolved into a defining aesthetic signature. Today, the fluted bezel stands as a mark of Rolex identity and refinement, crafted in gold on the Datejust 31 as a symbol of enduring distinction.

18 ct Everose Gold

To maintain the lasting beauty of its pink gold timepieces, Rolex developed and patented its own unique 18 ct Everose gold. This exclusive alloy is produced in Rolex’s in-house foundry, ensuring complete control over quality and consistency.
