Chocolate Dial

A refined watchmaking technique

This dial features diamonds set in 18 ct gold, adding a refined touch of brilliance and elegance. The sunray finish creates delicate light reflections, a signature aesthetic found across many Oyster Perpetual dials.

It is achieved through masterful brushing techniques that form fine grooves radiating outward from the centre of the dial. These engravings diffuse light evenly across the surface, producing a subtle glow that shifts with wrist movement.

Once the sunray texture is complete, the dial colour is applied using advanced processes such as Physical Vapour Deposition or electroplating. A final protective layer of varnish is then added, enhancing depth, richness, and a polished finish.

Gem-setters, like sculptors, finely shape precious metal by hand to create perfectly formed settings for each gemstone. With the skill of expert jewellers, every stone is carefully placed, precisely aligned with the others, and securely set in gold or platinum.

Beyond the quality of the stones themselves, several factors define Rolex gem-setting: the exact alignment of each gem’s height, their orientation and position, the consistency and strength of the setting, and the refined finishing of the metalwork.
