A Watchmaking Technique

The olive-green dial showcases refined watchmaking craftsmanship, enhanced with diamonds set in 18 ct gold settings. Its rich tone is elevated by the signature sunray finish, creating delicate and dynamic light reflections.

This effect is achieved through precise brushing techniques that form fine grooves radiating outward from the centre of the dial, giving it a structured and elegant surface.

As light moves across these engravings, it is evenly diffused, producing a subtle glow that shifts with wrist movement. Once the sunray finish is complete, the olive-green colour is applied using advanced Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) or electroplating techniques.

A final layer of varnish enhances depth, brilliance, and durability, completing the dial with a smooth and polished finish.

Fluted Bezel

A Rolex Signature

The fluted bezel is one of Rolex’s most distinctive design elements. Originally created for a functional purpose, the fluting allowed the bezel to be screwed onto the case, helping ensure the watch’s waterproofness.

This design mirrored the fluted case back, which was also screwed down using specialized tools to maintain a secure and sealed construction.

Over time, the fluted bezel evolved into a purely aesthetic feature, becoming a true Rolex signature. Today, crafted in gold, it stands as a symbol of refinement and distinction on the Datejust 31.
