This design was matched with the case back, which was also tightly screwed down using special Rolex tools to ensure complete sealing. With time, this technical detail evolved beyond its original purpose.

Today, the fluted bezel is no longer just functional—it has become a defining aesthetic element and a true Rolex signature. Crafted in gold on the Datejust 31, it represents heritage, precision, and timeless luxury.

Rosé-Colour Dial

A refined watchmaking technique

The sunray finish brings soft, elegant light reflections to many dials in the Oyster Perpetual collection. It is created through precise brushing techniques that form fine grooves radiating outward from the centre of the dial.

This detailed finishing allows light to spread evenly across the surface, producing a subtle, shimmering glow that changes beautifully with every movement of the wrist. It gives the dial a dynamic and refined visual effect.

Once the sunray texture is complete, the dial colour is applied using advanced techniques such as Physical Vapour Deposition or electroplating. A final protective layer of varnish enhances durability and gives the dial its smooth, polished finish.
