A watchmaking technique

This dial features diamonds set in 18 ct gold, adding a refined touch of brilliance. The sunray finish creates delicate light reflections, a signature detail found across many Oyster Perpetual dials.

It is achieved through masterful brushing techniques that form fine grooves radiating outward from the centre of the dial. These engravings diffuse light evenly, producing a subtle glow that shifts with wrist movement.

Once the sunray texture is complete, the dial colour is applied using advanced processes such as Physical Vapour Deposition or electroplating. A final coat of varnish enhances depth, clarity, and a polished finish.

Gem-setters, like sculptors, carefully carve precious metal by hand to create precise seats for each gemstone. With the artistry of skilled jewellers, every stone is placed, meticulously aligned, and securely set in gold or platinum.

Beyond the quality of the stones themselves, Rolex gem-setting is defined by several key factors: the exact alignment of each gem’s height, their orientation and position, the consistency and strength of the setting, and the refined finishing of the metalwork.

The result is a harmonious composition of brilliance and precision, designed to enhance the watch and captivate the wearer.

18 ct Everose Gold

An exclusive patented alloy

To preserve the lasting beauty of its pink gold timepieces, Rolex developed and patented its own exclusive 18 ct Everose gold. This special alloy is produced in Rolex’s in-house foundry, ensuring complete control over quality and composition.

Introduced in 2005, Everose gold is designed to maintain its warm pink hue over time, resisting fading and preserving its elegant appearance.

Today, 18 ct Everose gold is used across all Rolex Oyster models in pink gold, reflecting innovation, precision, and timeless luxury.
