The bright black dial features Rolex’s signature sunray finish, a refined technique used across many Oyster Perpetual models. This finish is created through precise brushing methods that form fine grooves radiating outward from the center of the dial.

These delicate lines interact with light to produce a soft, even reflection across the surface, creating a subtle glow that changes with wrist movement and viewing angle.

Once the sunray texture is complete, the dial color is applied using advanced techniques such as Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) or electroplating. A final protective layer of varnish is added, enhancing durability and giving the dial its polished, elegant appearance.

Fluted Bezel

A Signature Rolex Element

The fluted bezel is one of the most iconic design features of Rolex, symbolizing distinction and craftsmanship. Originally, the fluting on the Oyster bezel served a functional purpose, allowing the bezel to be securely screwed onto the case to help ensure the watch’s waterproofness.

This engineering detail matched the fluting on the case back, which was also tightly secured to the case using specialized Rolex tools for maximum sealing and protection.

Over time, this practical design evolved into a signature aesthetic element of Rolex watches. Today, the fluted bezel is recognized as a symbol of elegance and prestige, crafted in gold on the Datejust 36.
