This same design was mirrored on the case back, which was also tightly fastened using specialized Rolex tools to guarantee a secure seal.

Over time, this practical detail evolved into a defining aesthetic element. Today, the fluted bezel stands as a mark of distinction, crafted in gold on the Datejust 36 and reflecting timeless Rolex craftsmanship.

Slate Dial

Refined Sunray Craftsmanship

The slate dial features Rolex’s signature sunray finish, a refined watchmaking technique used across the Oyster Perpetual collection. It is created through precise brushing methods that form fine grooves radiating outward from the center of the dial.

These delicate lines interact with light to produce a soft, elegant reflection that subtly shifts with wrist movement.

Once the sunray texture is complete, the dial color is applied using advanced processes such as Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) or electroplating. A final protective layer of varnish is then added, ensuring a smooth, durable, and polished finish.
