The fluted bezel is one of Rolex’s most distinctive design elements, symbolizing elegance and heritage. Originally, the fluting on the Oyster bezel served a functional purpose, allowing it to be securely screwed onto the case to help ensure the watch’s waterproofness.

This same design was mirrored on the case back, which was also tightly fastened using specialized Rolex tools to ensure a secure seal.

Over time, this technical feature evolved into a signature aesthetic detail. Today, the fluted bezel stands as a mark of distinction, crafted in gold on the Datejust 36 and reflecting timeless Rolex craftsmanship and design excellence.

Pure Expression of Lacquer Craftsmanship

The white dial is created using refined lacquering techniques that deliver a smooth, rich, and highly polished surface. This method allows exceptional depth of color and a clean, flawless finish.

It begins with the successive application of multiple thin layers of lacquer onto a brass base plate, carefully building intensity and uniformity. A transparent varnish is then applied to enhance brilliance, depth, and clarity.

Once dried, the surface is meticulously polished to refine the finish and enrich the color. The dial is then prepared for pad printing and the application of its final details, resulting in a pure and elegant design.
