This design was mirrored on the fluted case back, which was also tightly fastened using specialized tools to create a secure seal. Over time, this practical engineering detail evolved into a distinctive aesthetic feature and a hallmark of Rolex identity.

Today, the fluted bezel stands as a symbol of distinction. Crafted in gold on the Datejust 41, it enhances the watch with a refined touch of elegance while preserving its timeless and iconic design language.

Bright Black Dial

A Refined Watchmaking Technique

The bright black dial features a sophisticated sunray finish that creates subtle, elegant light reflections across its surface. This effect is achieved through precise brushing techniques that form fine grooves radiating outward from the center of the dial.

As light interacts with these engravings, it is evenly diffused, producing a soft, dynamic glow that shifts with wrist movement and enhances the dial’s depth and visual character.

Once the sunray finish is complete, the dial color is applied using advanced methods such as Physical Vapour Deposition or electroplating. A final protective layer of varnish is then added, ensuring durability while giving the dial its smooth, polished appearance.
