A Rolex signature
The Rolex fluted bezel is a true mark of distinction. Originally designed with a functional purpose, its fluting allowed the bezel to be screwed onto the case, ensuring the watch’s waterproofness.
Mirroring the fluting on the case back—also screwed down using specific Rolex tools—it combined precision engineering with durability. Over time, the fluted bezel evolved into an iconic aesthetic feature. Today, crafted in gold on the Day-Date 40, it stands as one of Rolex’s most recognizable signatures.
Continuity of a design
This 18 ct Everose gold Day-Date 40 introduces the slate ombré dial—a new hue where the centre begins in slate and gradually deepens to black at the edges. For the first time on an ombré dial, faceted, deconstructed Roman numerals are paired with faceted index hour markers in 18 ct pink gold.
Previously, Rolex ombré dials featured diamond hour markers and were exclusive to the Day-Date 36. This dial continues a design legacy first introduced in the 1980s and revived in 2019. Its creation involves the delicate application of black lacquer, a precise process managed by a specialist to ensure a seamless gradient from light to dark.
An exclusive patent
To preserve the warmth and elegance of its pink gold watches, Rolex developed and patented a unique 18 ct pink gold alloy—Everose gold—crafted in its own foundry.
Introduced in 2005, Everose gold is now featured across all Rolex Oyster models in pink gold, ensuring enduring beauty and a distinctive hue that lasts over time.
The ultimate refinement
The design, development, and production of Rolex bracelets and clasps, along with the rigorous tests they undergo, rely on advanced high technology.
As with every component of the watch, meticulous aesthetic inspections by the human eye ensure flawless beauty. Introduced in 1956 for the launch of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date, the President bracelet—with its semi-circular three-piece links—embodies ultimate refinement and comfort, crafted exclusively from carefully selected precious metals.
