A Rolex signature
The Rolex fluted bezel is a true mark of distinction. Initially, the fluting on the Oyster bezel had a functional role: it allowed the bezel to be screwed onto the case, contributing to the watch’s waterproofness.
Matching the fluting on the case back—which was also screwed down using specialized Rolex tools—the bezel gradually evolved from a purely functional feature into an aesthetic signature. Today, the fluted bezel stands as a hallmark of elegance, crafted in gold on the Day-Date 40.
Continuity of a design
The green ombré dial presents a gradient that starts with a vibrant hue at the centre and deepens to black around the edge. This design continues the tradition Rolex introduced in the 1980s and relaunched in 2019.
Creating these dials with a concentric gradient requires the precise application of black lacquer—a delicate process overseen by a specialist to ensure a perfectly harmonious transition from colour to darkness.
Commitment to excellence
By operating its own exclusive foundry, Rolex can cast the highest-quality 18 ct gold alloys. Varying the proportions of silver, copper, platinum, or palladium produces different gold types: yellow, pink, or white.
Only the purest metals are used, meticulously inspected in an in-house laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment. The gold is then formed and shaped with the same painstaking attention to detail, reflecting Rolex’s commitment to excellence from the very source.
The ultimate refinement
The design, development, and production of Rolex bracelets and clasps, along with the rigorous tests they undergo, rely on advanced high technology.
As with all components of the watch, careful aesthetic inspection by the human eye ensures impeccable beauty. The President bracelet, featuring semi-circular three-piece links, was created in 1956 for the launch of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date. It embodies the ultimate in refinement and comfort, crafted exclusively from carefully selected precious metals.
