Silver Dial

A refined watchmaking technique

This silver dial is elevated with diamonds set in 18 ct gold settings, along with a Roman numeral IX in 18 ct gold set with eight diamonds, adding a distinctive touch of elegance and detail.

The sunray finish creates delicate light reflections that enhance the dial’s refined appearance, a signature feature of many Oyster Perpetual designs. This effect is achieved through expert brushing techniques that form fine grooves radiating outward from the center of the dial.

These engravings allow light to diffuse evenly across the surface, producing a soft, shifting glow that changes beautifully with wrist movement.

Once the sunray finish is complete, the silver colour is applied using advanced techniques such as Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) or electroplating. A final protective layer of varnish is then added to give the dial its smooth texture, depth, and polished finish.

The diamond-set bezel showcases the artistry and precision of expert gem-setting. Skilled artisans carefully shape the precious metal to create perfectly formed seats for each gemstone, ensuring a secure and precise fit.

Each diamond is then individually placed and meticulously aligned with the others, following a process that requires exceptional accuracy and craftsmanship. The stones are firmly secured in their gold or platinum settings, resulting in a balanced and elegant finish.

Rolex produces its own 18 ct gold alloys in an exclusive in-house foundry, giving the brand complete control over purity, quality, and precision. By carefully adjusting the proportions of metals such as silver, copper, platinum, and palladium, different variations of 18 ct gold are created, including yellow, pink, and white gold.

Only the purest raw materials are selected, and each alloy is thoroughly inspected in a state-of-the-art in-house laboratory to ensure exceptional consistency before it is shaped into components.
