The Oyster Perpetual’s black dial begins as a meticulously applied lacquer in a controlled-atmosphere environment to prevent dust and contamination.

The brass dial base receives six layers of lacquer to create a smooth, uniform surface. After varnishing and polishing to reveal its full depth and brilliance, the inscriptions are pad printed, and the hour markers and crown are hand-riveted. The dial, perfected in every detail, is ready to be placed atop the movement during assembly.
