Chocolate Dial

A refined expression of watchmaking artistry

This dial is adorned with diamonds set in 18 ct gold, along with a Roman numeral IX crafted in 18 ct gold and set with eight diamonds, adding a distinctive touch of elegance. The sunray finish enhances the dial with soft, radiant light reflections, a signature detail of many Oyster Perpetual designs.

The effect is achieved through expert brushing techniques that create fine grooves extending outward from the center of the dial. These precise engravings allow light to spread evenly across the surface, producing a subtle glow that shifts beautifully with wrist movement.

Once the sunray finish is complete, the chocolate tone is carefully applied using advanced techniques such as Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) or electroplating. A final protective layer of varnish is then added, giving the dial its smooth, refined finish and lasting visual depth.

A distinctive Rolex signature

The fluted bezel is one of Rolex’s most recognizable design features, representing tradition and fine craftsmanship. Originally, the fluting on the Oyster bezel served a practical purpose—it allowed the bezel to be securely screwed onto the case, helping enhance the watch’s water resistance.

This design was mirrored by the fluting on the case back, which was also tightly fixed to the case using specialized Rolex tools to ensure proper sealing and protection.

Over time, this functional detail evolved into a purely aesthetic signature, becoming an iconic design element of Rolex watches.

Today, the fluted bezel stands as a mark of distinction, crafted in gold on the Lady-Datejust, adding elegance, character, and timeless appeal.
