Dark Grey Dial

A Refined Watchmaking Technique

The dark grey dial reflects the precision and artistry found in Rolex timepieces. Often enhanced with diamonds set in 18 ct gold, it showcases a sophisticated balance of elegance and technical mastery.

Its surface is finished with a sunray effect that produces soft, elegant light reflections across the dial. This finish is achieved through expert brushing techniques that create fine grooves radiating outward from the center.

As light moves across these delicate lines, it produces a subtle, shifting glow that changes with the position of the wrist. Once the sunray pattern is complete, the dial colour is applied using advanced techniques such as Physical Vapour Deposition or electroplating.

A final protective layer of varnish is then added, giving the dial a smooth, deep, and polished appearance.

The fluted bezel is a distinctive design feature of Rolex timepieces. Originally, its fluted construction served a practical purpose by allowing the bezel to be securely screwed onto the case, helping ensure the watch’s water resistance.

This design was matched by the case back, which was also tightly fastened using specialized Rolex tools to enhance durability and protection.

Over time, the fluting evolved from a functional necessity into a refined aesthetic signature. Today, it is recognized as a mark of elegance and distinction, often crafted in gold on models like the Lady-Datejust, adding a luxurious finishing touch.
